Imagine if every student had their own AI-powered tutor. Well, Copenhagen-based Alice, an AI-driven learning platform that transforms generic course content into personalised, interactive study experiences, has just raised €4.2 million to redefine how students learn and succeed – at scale.
The round was led by Cherry Ventures and Y Combinator, with participation from angels from the US and Europe and PSV Tech, who led the pre-Seed round last year.
“We’re giving students an intelligent learning companion that helps them study smarter, not harder,” said Kim Rants, CEO and Co-founder of Alice. “In just one year, we’ve seen how powerful it can be to combine personalisation, AI, and social learning to dramatically improve outcomes and reduce stress. When used correctly, AI has the opportunity to vastly improve the student experience and reshape the future of education.”
Founded in 2024, Alice looks to help students study smarter, retain more, and stress less—using adaptive AI to deliver better outcomes at scale.
Alice was founded by Kim Rants and Patrick Gadd. Rants holds two masters degrees and has taught Copenhagen Business School students for more than 11 years, and Gadd is an Oxford graduate with 15+ years of experience with AI programming.
The company believes that traditional education system is outdated. The one-size-fits-all approaches fail to support the diverse learning styles and preferences of modern students, leading to inefficiencies, mounting stress, and uneven academic outcomes.
“I’m currently testing Alice with two classes, and my students are excited by the opportunity to test their knowledge in the different ways that Alice offers,” said Marina Pasovski, a teacher at Virum High School in Denmark. “I believe it’s important that we as educators dare to try new approaches—especially when it comes to responsibly integrating AI into the classroom, so we can show students how AI can—and cannot—be used. In that regard, Alice is a great tool.”
Alice’s platform combines AI-powered content generation with adaptive learning, generating study guides, quizzes, and tutoring based on student-uploaded materials. Students receive real-time insights into their progress and areas for improvement, and through Alice’s ‘Study with Friends’ feature, they can collaborate, share materials, and stay motivated.
Alice is currently available in 10 countries and has reportedly seen its user base soar by 650% in the past four months.
“At Cherry, we back mission-driven founders who combine ambition with strong execution, and Alice is a perfect fit,” said Sophia Bendz, Partner at Cherry Ventures. “The team is building an entirely new category of learning product—one that’s not just smart, but social, sticky, and scalable. I’m excited to see Alice grow into a global leader in AI-powered education.”
Alice is building in Denmark with a clear mission: to ensure Europe develops its own strong EdTech players to compete on a global stage. AI automation has opened up a range of new opportunities to build leading EdTech companies out of Europe and scale innovation across borders. The team believes that by working closely with institutions and educators, Europe can create its own model of ethical, effective AI use in the classroom.
“AI has enormous potential within education and learning – and it’s here to stay. That’s why I believe we should proactively develop solutions that build on Denmark’s already strong education system, rather than wait for them to come from outside,” said Tommy Ahlers, Denmark’s Former Minister for Higher Education and Science. “I believe Alice’s approach to responsible and personalised learning, which supports both students and teachers, can have a positive impact on students’ academic performance not just in Denmark, but globally.“
With the €4.8 million in fresh funding, Alice will focus on scaling its reach directly with students, refining its AI models, and forming deeper partnerships with high schools, universities, and education providers in Europe, the US, and beyond.
