Bolt, the Tallinn-based shared mobility platform, has acquired Viggo, the Copenhagen-based leading ride-hailing business, for an undisclosed sum – the acquisition will see Bolt’s ride-hailing operation enter Denmark for the first time and add to its existing e-bike rental service.
Markus Villig, Founder and CEO of Bolt, said: “We have always had a high bar for M&A but we share Viggo’s mission to improve cities and were impressed by their fully electric operations. The acquisition means we will become the largest ride-hailing operator in Denmark. We look forward to building on Viggo’s success and bringing more innovation to the local ride-hailing market to better serve customers in Denmark.”
Kenneth Herschel, CEO of Viggo, added: “Viggo was founded to provide a high-quality, sustainable taxi experience, and we are proud of what we have achieved. Joining Bolt allows us to scale our impact, benefiting both drivers and passengers with new technology, increased demand, and continued commitment to quality.”
Bolt was founded in 2013 by Markus Villig as a ride-hailing company and now offers multiple services including scooter and e-bike rentals, food and grocery delivery, and car-sharing in more than 600 cities across 50 countries. Viggo is Bolt’s first acquisition in its twelve year history.
Bolt provides shared mobility services including taxis, scooter and e-bike rental, and car rental to over 200 million lifetime customers. More than 4.5 million drivers use the Bolt platform worldwide.
The company seeks to accelerate the transition from owned cars to shared mobility, offering better alternatives for every use case. Its products include taxis, scooter and car rental services, food and grocery delivery, and corporate mobility solutions.
Viggo, founded in 2019, operates a fleet of over 300 electric vehicles and serves 450k users across Copenhagen and Aarhus. With more than 500 professional drivers, the company has built a reputation for sustainable mobility, premium service and high customer satisfaction.
Viggo is Scandinavia’s first ride-hailing service with a reported 100% electric car fleet. According to Viggo, they have cemented their position as Denmark’s best performing taxi service.
Viggo is on a mission to electrify urban commercial mobility, while offering a seamless and memorable user experience through stellar service and technology.
Bolt already has a strong presence in Denmark through its e-bike rental service, which has attracted hundreds of thousands of users. The introduction of ride-hailing creates a multi-modal transport ecosystem, where customers have the choice of electric bikes or vehicles, depending on their journey.
Bolt has further strengthened its position in Denmark through a new partnership with another Danish taxi company, Taxi 4×27, also announced today. The partnership will see Taxi 4×27’s fleet of over 600 vehicles made available on the Bolt platform, bolstering Bolt’s fleet in the country.
