Amazon has signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) for the entire capacity of the 100MW Ragsdale Solar Park in Madison County, Mississippi.

The project reached commercial operations in Q4 of last year and was formally launched by EDPR last week.

The project will provide power directly to Entergy Mississippi’s transmission system, which will power Amazon’s operations in the state.

“The opportunity to develop utility-scale solar and contract directly with customers like Amazon, who are also committed to expanding their own presence in Mississippi, has been invaluable,” said Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO of EDPR NA.

Acadian Renewable Energy (Acadian), a joint venture between SunChase Power and Eolian, initiated the project’s development. In early 2022, EDPR NA acquired the project from Acadian and completed its development.

Amazon has signed several PPAs with EDP. Last month, it signed a 20-year PPA with EDP Renewables APAC to buy power from a 44MW solar farm in Fukushima. The project includes 63,000 solar panels and is expected to generate 48GWh of electricity per year. EDP estimates it will be operational by Q3 2025.

This year, Amazon has also signed PPAs in Spain, Portugal, and India.

In recent years, EDPR has signed various renewable supply agreements with data center firms. Earlier this month, it signed three long-term Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (vPPA) with Microsoft for 389MW of power across Illinois and Texas.

EDPR NA is headquartered in Houston, Texas, and has 58 wind farms and nine solar parks in operation, with a combined capacity of 8.2GW.

The company is the North American subsidiary of EDP Renováveis, a Spanish renewable energy developer.
