Iron Mountain has been linked to a new data center in North Holland, the Netherlands.
First reported by Dutch IT Channel, the facility is being built by Dutch construction firm Heijmans, which has confirmed plans for the facility, but not the client.
Dutch IT Channel said, however, that multiple sources had told them that the client was Iron Mountain. DCD has contacted Iron Mountain for comment.
The 11,000 sqm (118,400 sq ft) facility, located in the Haarlem area of Amsterdam, will have a capacity of 10MW, with delivery scheduled for October 2026.
Heijmans said the facility will be a prefabricated build, with the modular building parts then transported to the unspecified site.
The data center is also being prepared for connection to a local district heating network.
Iron Mountain currently operates one 17,000 sqm data center in the Haarlem area of Amsterdam, named AMS-1. It currently offers 13.1MW, with another 5MW due live in Q3 2026.
The company’s latest earnings presentation suggests there is a second, AMS2, in the pipeline that will offer 20MW of capacity. It is unclear if these are the same facilities.
Iron Mountain recently partnered with Dutch tidal energy firm SeaQuerrent to deploy tidal energy solutions for data center operations. Before this, in April 2023, it signed a solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in the Netherlands with local energy company Sunrock.
Iron Mountain operates around 26 data centers in 20 markets across seven countries. In its Q4 earnings report, the company reported $620 million in revenue for its data center unit for 2024, up 25 percent on 2023.
Earlier this month, Iron Mountain announced a partnership with Ooredoo that will see it take a minority stake in the Qatari telco’s data center company, MENA Digital Hub.
The majority of data centers in the Netherlands are concentrated in Amsterdam, with Digital Realty, Switch, nLighten, NorthC, Cogent, NTT, AtlasEdge, Global Switch, Google, Lumen, and Equinix having a presence in the city.
