Karl Tuyls, the cofounder of buzzy Paris-based agentic AI startup H Company, is joining Meta’s artificial intelligence lab in Paris as director of AI research.
Tuyls wrote in a LinkedIn post that he will be working with Meta’s Llama team, which develops the company’s open source large-language models (LLMs), to build AI agents models.
“Bringing 25 years of experience in AAMAS (Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems) to develop impactful open-source action and agent models,” wrote Tuyls.
It comes six months after Tuyls left H Company alongside two other cofounders, Daan Wierstra and Julien Perolat — just three months after the startup raised a hefty $220m seed round.
The departures left only two of the original cofounders, Laurent Sifre and Charles Kantor, to lead the company.
H Company builds AI agents, a type of AI model that is intended to perform tasks or achieve goals autonomously. The startup recently unveiled its first product, an AI agent called Runner H, in beta for developers to test. Runner H can turn “instructions into precise actions,” according to the company.
Before launching H, Tuyls had spent over seven years as a researcher at Google DeepMind. His cofounders Wierstra, Perolat and Sifre were also all DeepMind alumni. Kantor is a former Stanford University computational mathematics student.
