Meta has signed four Environmental Attribute Purchase Agreements (EAPAs) with Spanish renewable energy developer Zelestra. The EAPAs will facilitate the construction of four solar projects in Texas that will deliver power to Meta’s data centers in the region.
The projects are located in the Hopkins, Lamar, Lampasas, and Henderson Counties and have a combined capacity of 595MWac (720MWdc).
When operational, the solar projects will deliver electricity to the ERCOT grid, which will power Meta’s data center operations. Meta has two operational data centers in the Texan market, located in Temple and Fort Worth.
Further details on the EAPA and the solar projects were not disclosed. DCD has contacted both companies for more information.
“We are excited to announce these solar projects with Zelestra,” said Urvi Parekh, head of global energy at Meta. “The renewable energy from these projects will support our data center operations, as well as our ongoing efforts to match our electricity usage with 100 percent clean and renewable energy.”
This is the second agreement between the two companies. In April, Meta signed a 210MWac EAPA with Zelestra – then known as SolarPack – for energy from two solar projects in Indiana. Meta and Zelestra have now closed six EAPAs across the US market, totaling 800MWac.
Phillip North, CEO of Zelestra US, said: “We are pleased to triple the size of our partnership with Meta, demonstrating that we share the same commitment to accelerate decarbonization. The agreement is a major boost to our wider ambition of doubling our total contracted renewables portfolio across the US in the next two years.”
Zelestra has expanded its presence in the US market over recent years. According to the firm, it has approximately 6.6GWdc of renewable projects under development across various states. In June of last year, Zelestra underwent a rebrand, changing its name from Solarpack. The company said this was part of a broader move toward a more client-centric approach and a focus on a wider range of renewable technologies.
Meta has signed several renewable energy supply agreements in Texas over recent months.
Late last year, the company signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Longroad Energy to purchase 100 percent of the output of the 300MWac (400MWdc) '1000 Mile' solar project in Yoakum County, Texas. 1000 Mile is Longroad's largest solar project and is expected to reach commercial operations in 2026.
In November, it signed an EAPA with Engie North America for 260MW of energy from its Sypert Branch solar project in Milam County, Texas.
Last year, Meta also signed PPAs for more than 1.2GW of contracted power in Indiana, Illinois, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
