Plans for a film studio’s data center campus near High Wycombe, UK, have been shared.

Located on land south of the Wycombe Air Park, the site was supposed to be home to an eight-stage film studio, developed by Stage Fifty. However, the company collapsed in April last year.

Wycombe Film Studios, under the parent company SCIO Capital, took over the development, with plans for a data center surfacing in October.

Details for the site have now been shared in planning documents submitted to the Buckinghamshire Council.

The 13-hectare site will house six data centers, a substation, and a gatehouse, totaling around 580,000 sq ft.

Construction costs are expected to be in the region of £265 million ($329m) over the five-year construction stage, creating 275 jobs. Once operational, the data center will create around 300 full-time jobs.

It is unclear if the data centers would be exclusively used for the studio's operations, or if they could be leased out as another source of income.

Ollie Bell, director of Nexus Planning, told The Construction Enquirer: “The creation of this data center responds to clear market requirements, addressing a significant need for data centers in the UK, particularly in London and the South East of England. The development presents many opportunities on both a local and national level.”

The UK Labour government has shown favorable attitudes towards data centers since coming into power in July 2024. Notably, it has designated data centers as Critical National Infrastructure and has declared the intention to encourage more data center developments across the country by relaxing planning restrictions in certain areas.
