European semiconductor firm STMicroelectronics has signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Total Energies for 1.5TWh of power over the contracted agreement.
The PPA will power STMicroelectronics sites in France and will be supplied from two recently constructed wind and solar farms with a combined capacity of 75MW.
"We are delighted to sign this agreement with STMicroelectronics, which demonstrates our ability to provide long-term and innovative clean firm power solutions tailored to our customer's needs," said Sophie Chevalier, senior vice president of flexible power & integration at TotalEnergies.
According to the companies, the PPA is designed with structuration services that will transform intermittent energy production into baseload electricity.
"Starting in 2025, this PPA with TotalEnergies will provide a significant level of renewable energy for ST's operations in France, which includes R&D, design, sales and marketing, and large-volume chip manufacturing," said Geoff West, chief procurement officer at STMicroelectronics.
The PPA has been in effect since January 2025.
STMicroelectronics has signed two PPAs to power its operations during 2024.
In November last year, it signed a 21-year PPA with Engie in Malaysia. The agreement, which will take effect in 2025, provides STMicroelectronics with 50GWh annually from a solar farm in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, Malaysia.
Before this, in April, it signed a 10-year PPA with Centrica Energy. The agreement will see ST buy 61GWh of solar energy generated by a new solar farm in Italy.
