TTTech Auto, a Vienna-based automotive technology startup, has been acquired by Dutch multinational NXP Semiconductors for €625 million, marking a significant stride in the automotive industry’s transition towards software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
Known for its expertise in safety-critical systems, TTTech Auto has played a notable role in developing solutions that enhance vehicle autonomy and connectivity, positioning it as a key player in the evolution of modern mobility.
“The emergence of intricately connected and adaptive frameworks in SDVs highlights the need for middleware to tackle challenges in integration, safety and scalability,” said Dirk Linzmeier, chief executive officer of TTTech Auto. “NXP and TTTech Auto both clearly recognize this need and share the same vision for SDV transformation. Together, MotionWise and NXP CoreRide empowers automakers with a robust SDV foundation, ensuring seamless coordination of diverse systems that help automakers deliver innovative features while maintaining reliability and safety at scale.” Stefan Poledna, chief technology officer and co-founder of TTTech Auto added, “I could not be more excited for our team to join NXP. Together, we are perfectly situated to engage with OEM and Tier one players throughout their system design process.”
Founded in 2018 as a spin-off from TTTech Group, TTTech Auto focuses on creating scalable and reliable platforms for software-defined vehicles. Its flagship product, MotionWise, is a software framework designed for integrating safety-critical systems in autonomous and connected vehicles. MotionWise enables automotive manufacturers to achieve rigorous safety standards while streamlining development processes and accelerating time-to-market.
The combination of TTTech Auto’s MotionWise platform and NXP’s CoreRide platform (which features S32G vehicle network processors) promises to deliver a powerful synergy for software-defined vehicles. When integrated with NXP’s high-performance CoreRide solution—a software platform designed for in-vehicle processing and secure communication—MotionWise creates a comprehensive ecosystem capable of managing the complex demands of modern vehicles.
This integration will enable real-time data processing, secure over-the-air updates, and enhanced system scalability, paving the way for safer, smarter, and more connected vehicles.
NXP’s acquisition of TTTech Auto highlights its ambition to be at the forefront of SDV development. NXP, a global player in semiconductor solutions, has highlighted its intention to leverage TTTech Auto’s expertise to expand its offerings in high-performance computing and automotive network architectures.
The acquisition also reflects the growing importance of software in the automotive industry. As vehicles become increasingly connected and autonomous, the ability to deliver software updates and new functionalities over the air has become a critical requirement. This shift has spurred a surge in demand for SDV solutions, with NXP and TTTech Auto poised to capitalise on this trend.
According to TTTech Auto, the SDV market will expand to 45% penetration of global auto production in 2027, reflecting a 48% CAGR between 2024 and 2027.
“This acquisition combines NXP’s automotive portfolio with a leading global player in safety software solutions,” said Jens Hinrichsen, executive vice president and general manager of analog & automotive embedded systems at NXP. “The inclusion of TTTech Auto’s software into the NXP CoreRide solution further strengthens NXP’s automotive value proposition and accelerates the automotive industry’s transformation to software-defined vehicles. NXP CoreRide enables automakers to deploy their best-in-class, differentiated vehicle platforms more efficiently, faster, and safely. Our acquisition of TTTech Auto is the next big step in NXP’s journey to become the leading provider of intelligent edge systems in automotive and Industrial IoT.”
TTTech Auto’s existing partnerships, including collaborations with Audi and other major automotive players, are expected to benefit from the increased resources and technological synergies brought by NXP.
Pending regulatory approvals, TTTech Auto including its management team, intellectual property, assets, and approximately 1,100 engineering staff will join NXPs automotive team. As part of NXP, TTTech Auto will continue to serve existing customers and expand its global footprint under the NXP brand.
