Taking on Uber at its own game isn’t easy, but that’s exactly what Tallinn headquartered mobility startup Bolt is trying to do.
The firm, founded in 2013 by Markus Villig when he was 19-years-old, is making a pretty good go of it too. Since launching, the company has expanded from Estonia (home to a little over a million people) to over 35 countries in Europe, Africa, North Africa, West Asia, North America and Australasia.
The startup is aiming to win big by undercutting Uber on pricing, meaning that drivers earn more and the passengers pay less. Bolt takes a smaller margin on each journey than Uber but its overheads are significantly less. There’s no costly Silicon Valley engineers and there’s only a modest marketing budget.
Here are eight of the top string-pullers working behind the scenes at Bolt.
- Markus Villig, founder & CEO
- Martin Villig, Co-founder
- Johan Bergqvist, Chief Financial Officer
- Jevgeni Kabanov (JK), Chief Product Officer
- Venus Lim, Global Head of Supply Operations
- Dominic Moxon-Tritsch, Director of Regulation and Public Policy
- Rain Johanson, VP Engineering
- Karin Palmquist, VP People & Culture
