Helsinki-based DataCrunch has secured $13 million in a seed funding round led by byFounders, with participation from J12 Ventures, Local Tapiola, Nordea, and a group of prominent angel investors including Lasse Espeholt, Nal Kalchbrenner, Oskari Saarenmaa, Henrik Rosendahl, Anders Bo Pedersen, Maaike Bryon, Ari Tulla, Tuomo Riekki and Tapio Tolvanen. DataCrunch aims to become Europe’s first hyperscaler dedicated to AI computing, offering scalable and cost-effective infrastructure tailored for AI workloads. The new funding will be used to expand their renewable energy-powered data centers in Finland and Iceland, launch advanced NVIDIA H200 servers, and enhance their GB200 NVL72 clusters.
Founded in 2020 by Ruben Bryon, DataCrunch was established to address the rising complexity and cost of AI computing. As AI models become more sophisticated, they demand more computational resources, leading to higher costs and limited availability of specialized accelerators like GPUs. DataCrunch’s innovative solution involves offering on-demand compute clusters that are optimized for AI workloads, enabling developers to access high-performance infrastructure without the usual cost and complexity of traditional providers. This latest investment will help the company further enhance its services, making next-generation AI computing more accessible to innovators across the continent.
DataCrunch plans to launch new NVIDIA H200 servers and adopt GB200 NVL72 clusters next year, boosting the speed and capabilities of its offerings. As the company scales its team and infrastructure, it remains focused on providing businesses with flexible, scalable solutions that can efficiently handle even the most demanding AI workloads. Leveraging its data centers’ location in the Nordics, DataCrunch benefits from low energy and cooling costs, enabling it to offer competitive pricing while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability.
“AI companies deserve better access to computing without the complexity and high costs that have become the industry norm,” said Ruben Bryon, Founder and CEO of DataCrunch. With this new round of funding, we are scaling our infrastructure to meet growing demand and firmly positioning ourselves as Europe’s leading provider of AI infrastructure.
“At DataCrunch, we have a clearer vision than our competitors for providing computing services with the smallest possible carbon footprint. We already operate on 100% green energy and benefit from our location in Europe, which is at the forefront of the green transition. Our Nordic roots allow us to take advantage of some of the lowest electrical energy and cooling costs in the world, enabling us to offer the most competitive prices.” said Ruben Bryon.
