Espoo-based Gosta Labs has raised €1.2 million in pre-seed funding from Cor Group and several health sector angel investors, including Jaakko Ollila. The startup specializes in developing an AI-driven assistant for healthcare that listens during medical appointments and generates draft clinical notes. By reducing the time healthcare professionals spend on documentation, the solution aims to improve workflow efficiency. With the funding, Gosta Labs plans to further develop its product and expand its implementation in healthcare systems, following its initial rollout at a health center in Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County.
Gosta Labs has developed a solution for ambient clinical documentation. The software, built on large language models, listens in the background during a healthcare appointment and automatically creates a draft of the clinical note for the doctor, thus saving healthcare professionals’ time and supporting more meaningful patient interactions. The Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County has already implemented Gosta Labs’ solution in its first health center. Gosta Labs was founded by Henri Viertolahti and Lauri Sippola, whose previous health technology company, Kaiku Health, was acquired by the Swedish publicly listed medtech giant Elekta in 2020.
“Artificial Intelligence, with Large Language Models as a prime example, enhances the efficiency of healthcare data analysis and streamlines documentation processes. At the same time, real-time decision-making can be supported in unprecedented ways. Our goal is to help healthcare systems worldwide, which are struggling with rising patient numbers and limited resources, benefit from the latest technologies. With our solution, doctors and healthcare staff can focus more on patient care instead of spending time typing at a computer,” says Lauri Sippola, CEO and co-founder of Gosta Labs.
Physician and co-founder of Cor Group, Olli Karhi, is joining Gosta Labs’ board of directors.
“As a doctor, I know that too much of healthcare staff’s working time is spent on documentation and record-keeping. The potential savings from automating this work are enormous,” adds Olli Karhi, Chairman of the Board of Gosta Labs.
