Startup accelerator and investor Y Combinator — a famed name in global tech and one of the few accelerators VCs say startups should bother with — today unveiled the list of European startups accepted into its summer 2024 batch.

Just 11 of the 223 companies accepted are based in Europe — the lowest figure since 2018. The previous cohort had 14 European companies, and the one before that accepted 27 European companies. 54% of this season’s global cohort are described as working on AI, according to YC’s website.

The programme will kick off in September at Y Combinator’s campus in San Francisco. It runs for 12 weeks and gives participants the chance to meet famous founders from tech giants like Airbnb, Stripe, DoorDash and Reddit. Each company in the cohort is also paired with one of YC’s group partners — like Monzo cofounder Tom Blomfield and Algolia cofounder Nicolas Dessaigne.
