Lemonado, a Sweden-founded no-code platform that enables anyone to build custom business apps with ease, has raised €1.2 million in seed funding. Lemonado, co-founded by early Trustly team members, is the go-to tool for non-developers who want to build business software to automate their work and streamline business processes. Lemonado’s largest market is currently the US.

The funding will be used to drive international product-led growth by expanding Lemonado’s technological development, service offering, and community engagement teams. This will include more senior developers, as well as growth hackers and content marketers.

The round was led by Nordic venture capital firm node.vc with participation from Alexander Aghassipour, co-founder of Zendesk and partner at Nordic Makers. Chris Albinsson, node.vc partner and co-founder, will be joining the Lemonado board.

node.vc partner Chris Albinsson, commented: “We see tremendous potential in Lemonado and align with their mission to automate arduous tasks and build what they need, shaping the modern workplace by giving workers easy-to-use tools that make work simpler and more collaborative. Investing in the enabling of smarter work is one of Node’s main investment theses and Lemonado is a superb example of this with high impact potential. We also like the team’s product-led growth approach, which we’re already seeing early proof-points of.”

Nordic Makers partner and Zendesk co-founder Alexander Aghassipour, added: “With my own deep understanding of software, Lemonado’s vision for the future of work is both compelling and exciting. There are parallels between their founding journey and my own with Zendesk – seeing the problem first-hand and getting on with building the solution. Nordic Makers is excited to support Albert, Daniel, and Rikard on their journey.”

Lemonado is designed for non-developers and businesses that work with data but lack the budget or skills to hire development teams or write their own code. Realising that the standard software suite of spreadsheets and powerpoint will eventually be enhanced by AI-native software and agents, Lemonado aims to accelerate this shift by offering next generation tools, free of developers, that use AI to automate tedious parts of modern workflows such as data visualisation and handling.

Lemonado generates apps with rich UIs and impressive dataset integrations; users can automatically relate and sync data across multiple sources such as Hubspot, Postgres, and Google Sheets. The platform enables live data, in quantities as high as millions of entries, to be computed on a continual basis – something unique to Lemonado. The platform employs a ‘building block’ mechanism, providing users with easily implementable ‘out the box’ functionalities.

Current customers include The Octopus Club, WorkTripp, and Planhat. The company was founded out of a previous venture, Passbuy, which scaled to have over 100,000 users but ultimately didn’t grow fast enough to succeed. Taking those lessons on board, founding team Albert Lundberg (CEO), Rikard Javelind, and Daniel Angelhoff (both developers – and early core Trustly team) built Lemonado in response to issues they experienced first-hand.

Albert, a product manager, personally witnessed the slow and inefficient processes associated with handling large data sets, becoming acutely aware of just how much repetitive work could be automated if given the right tools. Whereas Rikard and Daniel had experienced demands on their time increasing as developers operating within rapidly scaling organisations.

Lemonado co-founder and CEO Albert Lundberg, said: “Conventional ways of working with data are outdated and cumbersome. We’re in the decade of data, we must incorporate more automation in order to maintain and enhance productivity.  Lemonado exists to give people who are the closest to the problem the tools to solve that very issue. We are here to empower people to build the solution, free of code and the need for a developer, using company data to automate work. Lemonado is the most flexible tool in its space. It’s been really exciting to see our users start their projects with small use cases and expand them in ways we had never imagined. Thank you to our investors, node.vc, Nordic Makers, Antler, and angels, for supporting our vision to help people work faster and smarter.”
