Amsterdam-based Antfarm, a robotic startup, announced on Thursday, that it has secured €200k investment from the company’s co-founder and CEO Sébastien Willems.
The company will use the funds to accelerate its growth and enhance robots and AI to significantly impact the global waste crisis.
“Our failure to manage our waste properly (yes, also in the West) has an endless amount of negative effects, of which contribution to climate change is the most notable one. Preventing the production of virgin materials is key to lowering our footprint,” says Willems.
Antfarm: Preventing global waste crisis
The global waste problem has led to challenges for Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in efficiently sorting and processing recyclable materials due to limited capacity, high costs, and the complexities of waste separation.
Recognising the urgency of addressing this issue, Antfarm has designed and developed robotics and AI solutions that can significantly impact the waste crisis.
At the core of Antfarm‘s solution lies the combination of swarm robotics and AI technology.
The company’s flagship product, the Antfarm X1, utilises the collective intelligence of multiple robots working together guided by advanced AI algorithms.
According to the company, this system can sort an astonishing 700 items per minute, outperforming traditional methods by up to six times.
By increasing throughput and accuracy, facilities can process larger volumes of waste in a shorter time frame, resulting in improved profitability and industry-leading return on investment (ROI).
“I am not saying we are going to save the world, but Antfarm can improve waste sorting significantly. In the past 8 months, we have checked and double-checked that with industry experts. They agree that our robots could have a massive impact on recycling profitability, and therefore the environment.” he adds.
