A recent jobs market survey has found that in Europe, competition for jobs has doubled in the last year, with the fastest-growing jobs in the areas of sustainability, AI, cybersecurity and business development.
New positions are also emerging that didn’t exist 20 years ago, with in-demand job titles including those of sustainability manager, AI engineer and cybersecurity analyst.
Data from GitHub shows that in 2023, JavaScript, Python, TypeScript, Java, and C# were the most used on its platform. Each has different capabilities but broadly, these languages are used for web applications, software development, AI and machine learning, and data.
This points to it being a good time to be a software engineer, and that makes sense in a post-pandemic environment, which saw the speedy scaling adoption of cloud adoption, and a rapid move towards the digitisation of services.
Now, as more Europeans than ever do their daily admin and tasks online, industries from banking to retail are looking for talent to develop, maintain, secure and use data to improve their offerings.
Software talent is in demand
Software roles in general are in demand, with jobs site Indeed saying that the most wanted roles this year include front-end developer, software engineer, data scientist, cloud engineer, full-stack developer, DevOps engineer, computer vision engineer, and back-end developer.
The rise of skills-based hiring is good news for tech pros as well. As the demand for talent intensifies thanks to rapidly-evolving technologies, workplace requirements are changing far more swiftly than education can keep up with.
So it is those workers with proven experience and knowledge of their subject areas, and who can help to build agile, innovative, and future-proof workforces that employers really want to hire.
Whether you want to work in cloud, big data or project management, or something else, there is a role out there for you. The Silicon Canals Job Board contains thousands of open roles all across Europe. Discover just three of them below.
