Frankfurt-based Gunzilla Games, a AAA games developer, announced on Tuesday that it has secured a combined funding of $30M (approximately €27.6M). This includes a $10M strategic token round co-led by CoinFund and Avalanche’s Blizzard Fund, with participation from Republic Capital and Morningstar Ventures.
Additionally, there were previously unreported equity and validator sales.
The company will use the funds to develop the highly anticipated cyberpunk-style battle royale third-person shooter game ‘Off The Grid‘ and its blockchain-based marketplace platform, GUNZ.
The announcement comes over a year after raising €44.9M in a funding round led by Republic Capital.
Off the Grid
Gunzilla Games is the developer of Off The Grid, a battle royale third-person shooter game with a cyberpunk-inspired theme.
Along with Off The Grid, Gunzilla Games has also developed GUNZ. This blockchain-based digital economy platform enables Gunzilla and other AAA game developers to provide players with full ownership of in-game items as tradable NFTs on an on-chain marketplace and mobile apps.
Proceeds from these sales will go towards the game launch and the initial wave of post-release content for the rest of the year.
GUNZ is already live as an Avalanche Subnet customised to optimise high-speed gameplay and streamline gas payments by using its native token, offering verifiable transparency for gamers and developers alike.
Off the Grid is set to release on PC, Playstation and Xbox. The game is set to deploy the concept of complete asset ownership and a player-driven in-game economy, all within 60 hours over several seasons.
Vlad Korolov, CEO and co-founder of Gunzilla Games says, “With the forthcoming launch of Off The Grid and GUNZ to the public, we are not just advancing towards a new horizon in AAA gaming but also establishing a new standard in the blockchain space. This evolution is supported by the invaluable backing of our funding partners, empowering us to deliver a AAA gaming experience that is set to exceed gamers’ expectations and enriches their engagement with the game universe by incorporating the decentralised community-driven in-game economy.”
