“Glamping” means camping with glamour. Something that Kampaoh, specialising in offering comfortable and sustainable tented accommodation, knows how to do. The Spanish startup culminated a successful 2023 marked by international expansion into new European markets, including France, Italy and Portugal, accounting for 6.5% of the company’s total turnover.
Founded in 2016 by entrepreneur Salvador Lora, the brand has experienced extraordinary growth, increasing its revenue from €45k to €23 million in just seven years, with an offer that encompasses 3,500 accommodations spread across 83 campsites.
Since its launch, Kampaoh’s growth has been unstoppable. An original idea that Salvador Lora managed to successfully implement in Spain after a holiday trip with his wife and sister-in-law to the Dominican Republic. The concept of “easy and beautiful” camping not only managed to attract travellers eager for adventure, but also the attention of different capital funds looking for investment.
“At Kampaoh we are proud of our success because we understand that, for our customers, luxury is about sharing unforgettable experiences with our loved ones while respecting the environment. Our goal is to continue to innovate to meet the ever-increasing demands of our customers and ensure the best possible holiday without the hassle,” says Salvador Lora, president and founder of Kampaoh.
For the launch in 2016, Lora invested €5,000 in the purchase of the first tents and basic equipment thanks to the FFF (Family, Friends & Fools), allowing it to grow steadily and organically for 4 years.
In 2020, Encomenda Smart Capital showed its interest and provided an amount close to €500k, a key investment for the closing of 2021 marked by the pandemic, but also by a turnover of €3.4 million. This was joined by other investment funds such as Alter Capital, Axon Partners Group and JME Ventures, who injected €14 million at the end of 2022, key to Kampaoh’s growth and internationalisation in 2023. In the same year, the company managed to consolidate its presence in the North of Spain, making it the second region with the highest revenues, after Andalusia.
The startup’s business model has opened up numerous possibilities for the tourism sector, offering travellers a quality service with more sustainable and environmentally friendly experiences. To do this, Kampaoh carefully selects each of the campsites where they decide to implement their handmade tents – handmade in their workshops in Seville – and thus guarantee the best possible holidays for their customers.
By 2024, Kampaoh plans to add fully-managed campsites to its catalogue in Spain to take the “easy and beautiful” camping experience to another level. In terms of revenue, Kampaoh forecasts a turnover of 40 million euros, which translates into an increase of 74% over the previous year. It also plans to expand its presence by 25% (from 80 to 100 campsites), reaching 5,000 shops in the 4 countries where it is present. Kampaoh also aims to strengthen its international presence in more exotic destinations such as the Philippines and the Dominican Republic.
