Stan Hamers, ex-Managing Director of GVT Transport & Logistics, has acquired QC United’s assets (Quicargo) through S. Hamers Holding, just a week after the company’s bankruptcy declaration.Â
This move allows the Amsterdam-based logistics startup to resume operations starting today.
Due to financial difficulties, Quicargo temporarily ceased operations on 18 January, leading to a court-declared bankruptcy on 22 January. The company recognised the urgency to preserve brand value, so efforts were made for a swift relaunch.
Quicargo’s founder and CEO, Avishai Trabelsi, has stepped down. However, he aims to facilitate a smooth transition and support Stan Hamers in relaunching the platform, claims the company.
What’s next for Quicargo?
Stan Hamers is set to assume leadership at Quicargo, taking charge of both the company and its staff. Quicargo resumes its operations today, offering national and international shipping services for both shippers and carriers.
Hamers, a seasoned logistics professional with over three decades of industry experience, had previously held the position of Managing Director at GVT Transport & Logistics, which was acquired by ID Logistics in 2021.
“It is deeply regrettable that, despite confidence in a profitable business model, Quicargo did not manage to prevent bankruptcy, and thus, the trust of loyal customers and carriers has been damaged,” says Hamers.
“The increasing specialism of the sector is making it more difficult for SME customers to find the right carrier for their transport needs.”
“Transport and distribution will drastically change in the coming years due to the demand for greener transport and ongoing driver shortages. Therefore, I believe Quicargo’s advanced technology continues to provide convenience for loyal customers in both local and international shipments,” he adds.
Improving efficiency in the local road freight industry
Quicargo is a logistics startup that streamlines the road freight industry by connecting trucks with surplus cargo space to shippers.
The company claims to address the inefficiency of empty trucks on European roads, which account for 50 per cent of the traffic. This not only wastes resources but also contributes to environmental pollution and economic inefficiencies.
Quicargo’s goal is to solve this problem by simplifying and cost-effectively facilitating pallet shipping. By collaborating with carriers with unused truck capacity, Quicargo optimises freight transport, providing a solution that benefits both shippers and carriers.
The company is currently operating in the Netherlands.
