The Philips Innovation Award is the largest student entrepreneurship award in the Netherlands, meant for students and recent graduates, for up to 3 years. For those who have a burning desire to take their startup or groundbreaking idea to the next level, this is a golden opportunity.
The Philips Innovation Award trajectory provides access to expert guidance, valuable investor advice, training sessions, workshops, and a price worth €50,000. The Philips Innovation Award does not believe in a ‘winner takes it all’ mentality. The core focus revolves around providing a valuable learning trajectory that extends its benefits to all participants.
The award’s valued partners actively invest in this process, contributing coaching and feedback, integral to the entire trajectory. Their involvement is essential, ensuring that every participating start-up receives valuable input and advice crucial for their growth and idea realization.
Register before December 6th
Startups that want to participate in the Philips Innovation Award 2024 are invited to submit their business plans with the deadline set on December 6th at 23:59. To give all participants from different stages a platform to develop their innovations, two leagues have been created: the Innovator and Rough Diamond league.
Upon submission, each plan undergoes review by a business panel consisting of experienced entrepreneurs, investors, businesswomen and businessmen. The top thirty startups, determined by the highest aggregate score, will advance to the semi-final.Â
Valuable investor partners
The different stages of the award enable participating startups to progressively develop themselves. Beyond serving as a learning experience for participants, the trajectory functions as a critical validation checkpoint for investors and other stakeholders with an interest in early-stage start-ups.
Among the investor partners related to the Philips Innovation Award are Inkef Capital, Innovation Quarter, Graduate Entrepreneur, Slingshot, Antler, Asif Ventures, Shamrock Ventures, and Rockstart. Earning a place in the finals not only pushes startups to the next level but also communicates to numerous institutions that a venture is recognized as high-quality.
Consequently, participating in the Philips Innovation Award transcends mere competition, offering diverse benefits that extend far beyond participating just for the win.Â
Inspiring past participants
The achievements of previous participants in the Philips Innovation Award showcase a diverse range of entrepreneurial successes and innovations. These individuals have left a lasting impact on their respective industries. Take the transformative influence of Felyx, a semi-finalist of the 2018 edition, for instance.
By offering shared electric mopeds, the company has significantly changed the urban mobility landscape, becoming an integral part of contemporary transportation. Likewise, LaLaLand stands as another noteworthy disruptor in the fashion industry.Â
Following their victory in the 2020 Philips Innovation Award, LaLaLand revolutionised fashion by introducing personalised and inclusive synthetic models for e-commerce brands. This innovative approach attracted widespread attention, leading to collaborations with entities such as Tommy Hilfiger and Zalando. In the biotechnology sector, the groundbreaking startup Loop Biotech emerged as the winner of the 2021 Philips Innovation Award.
Their contributions have earned international recognition, including features on well-known platforms such as CNN, and they have also secured €75.000 in funding from Graduate Entrepreneur.
Respyre, the winner of the 2022 Philips Innovation Award, also secured a convertible loan of €300,000 from the Noord-Holland Innovation Fund. As these success stories show, the Philips Innovation Award has and wants to continue to, play an important role in boosting emerging startups.
