London-based Oakley Capital, a pan-European private equity investor, announced on Tuesday that it has closed Oakley Capital Origin Fund II, reaching a hard cap of €750M in four months, exceeding Origin Fund I in size.
Oakley Capital Origin II was backed by institutional investors, including 18 new LPs in Europe, the US, and Asia, as well as from entrepreneurs from across Oakley’s network.
The close of Origin II comes after Oakley raised €2.85B for Fund V earlier this year, allowing the Firm to continue deploying capital effectively.
It also follows the close of Oakley’s €1+B continuation fund for IU Group after Fund III’s exit from the business earlier this year.
In total, over the last 12 months, Oakley has raised over €4.8B, invested over €2B, and realised over €1.3B
Oakley’s Origin strategy
Oakley created the Origin to build on its 20-year experience in the lower mid-market.
With Oakley’s average deal size increasing, Origin focuses on smaller yet appealing deals, allowing Oakley to stay connected and relevant to founders.
Origin I has consistently deployed capital across Oakley’s four core sectors: Technology, Business Services, Consumer, and Education.
Other Origin I investments include ECOMMERCE ONE, VICE Golf, and vLex.
Origin II will follow the same strategy as its predecessor fund, investing in tech-enabled businesses with enterprise values of up to €200M.
Oakley continues to invest in talent to support its growing and diversifying asset and investor base.
Oakley has recently made some senior hires, including:
- Viral Mehta joins the Origin team as Managing Director
- Jonathan Irwin joins as Oakley’s Head of Origination
Oakley Capital Founder and Managing Partner Peter Dubens says, “We are pleased to have received such strong support for Oakley Capital Origin II, and we thank all our new and existing investors for their continued trust in Oakley. The lower mid-market remains an attractive and dynamic one, with the potential for exceptional founder-led businesses looking for a partnership to provide an alternative source of capital and growth expertise. With a strong pipeline of investment opportunities and a growing, experienced team, we look forward to beginning this new chapter with Origin II.”
