London-based deep tech startup United Robots has unveiled a fleet of autonomous industrial cleaning robots. The startup received support from Aper Ventures and other investors to support the development and deployment of the robots.
The company claims the robots are designed to clean large, crowded spaces without compromising human safety. With advanced AI detection to navigate their surroundings, they can clean an area equivalent to two football fields on a single charge.
“Our robots are highly efficient and reliable; their real edge lies in their ability to work harmoniously with humans in crowded settings, in real-time,” says Dariusz Mankowski, CEO and co-founder of United Robots. “We’ve redesigned the traditional machine, enabling each robot to turn in place, making it the most agile autonomous scrubber available.”
Since its founding in 2016, United Robots has been developing autonomous robots for industrial cleaning. Its latest innovations were developed by a team of engineers with former Mars rover engineer Konrad Cop at the helm.
Promoting staff safety
Slips, trips, and falls are the most common causes of injuries in warehouses, according to the American National Safety Council. Spills and debris caused thirty per cent of these accidents. When a staff is injured, cleaning must be halted — which can cost companies more money.
This is where autonomous cleaning robots come in handy as they can help warehouses stay safe and clean without interrupting operations. Companies can also save the cost of extra labour outside regular hours.
The AI-driven system can prevent cleaning overlaps and conserve water, detergents, and energy. This sustainable cleaning solution can cut warehouse or manufacturing site maintenance costs by up to 85 per cent.
“Our investment in these floor scrubbing robots signals a paradigm shift where machines enhance human tasks rather than interrupting them,” says Piotr SÅ‚awski, Managing Partner in Aper Ventures.
“It proves that deep tech offers solutions even for warehouse, automotive, and manufacturing managers seeking solutions for staffing shortages,” he adds.
The robots have been extensively tested in Poland, Europe’s fourth-largest warehouse supply market. Now, they are preparing for launch in the UK and Germany.
Other industrial cleaning experience
Previously, United Robots signed a partnership with Dussman, a leading facility management company with clients in over 30 countries.
Through the partnership, the robot manufacturer provides innovative cleaning technology to one of Dussmann’s customers. Since then, the company has deployed robots to improve employees’ daily work in an industrial automation factory.
The partnership also includes the installation of two docking stations to help keep the cleaning robots operating and maintained. These docking stations help the robots to recharge their batteries and refill their detergents and water.
