Austrian startup Tilebox has secured €1.5 million in its pre-seed round to revolutionize data management for space companies. The financing round was led by Cocoa Ventures, Possible Ventures, Remote First Capital, and space angels such as Findus Ventures and Luis Sanz, CEO of CARTO.
With the space industry projected to generate over $500 billion in revenue by 2030-2040, efficient data management has become crucial. Tilebox aims to transform the way space companies handle their valuable data and empower organizations to maximize the value of their space assets.
Tilebox is an integrated midstream platform for the space industry, offering reliable and cost-efficient software tools to implement data pipelines, enhance efficiency, and reduce maintenance costs. The platform also prepares companies for technologies like AI, with a strong focus on security.
Carmen Alfonso, Partner at Cocoa Ventures, commented: “Tilebox has identified an unmet need and an opportunity to radically improve how companies manage space data. The fact that they have attracted customers, even at this early stage, is a testament to the pressing need for comprehensive space data management solutions. With their deep technical expertise and commitment to innovation, Laura and Stefan are best positioned to transform a fast growing industry.”
Tilebox was founded in 2022 by Laura Costa and Stefan Amberger in Vienna, Austria. Their vision is to empower businesses to maximize the potential of their satellites in building products that benefit society. The funds raised will be utilized to expand the team, enhance platform capabilities, and solidify Tilebox’s position as the go-to solution for space data management on Earth and in-orbit.
Stefan Amberger, co-founder of Tilebox, added: “In an industry where good software and infrastructure is critical and midstream software is underserved, Tilebox stands out. We provide reliable and cost-efficient software tools for space companies to implement their data pipelines, enhancing efficiency, keeping development speed up and maintenance costs down, and enabling readiness for technologies like AI, all with a strong focus on security”
Wolfgang Ebner, a satisfied Tilebox customer from ISEE, highlighted how the platform provided an edge in managing satellite data from the very beginning, turning raw data into valuable insights. Daria Stepanova, CEO of Airmo, expressed excitement about having Tilebox as an early partner, enabling them to focus on their core business goals.
Tilebox’s core solution lies in flexible and high-performance data processing capabilities, integrations with downstream services like analytics tools and marketplaces, and interfaces upstream toward space service providers. This allows space companies to streamline their in-house data pipelines, leading to improved efficiency and achieving the full potential of their missions.
With its state-of-the-art software and infrastructure systems, Tilebox provides a powerful, reliable, and scalable solution that enables space companies to develop their in-house data pipelines ten times more efficiently and effectively than existing solutions. By eliminating friction between teams and costly maintenance of suboptimal solutions, Tilebox empowers organizations to maximize the value of their space assets.
