Delft-based Quantum Delta NL, the Netherlands’ national ecosystem for excellence in quantum innovation, announced on Friday the recipients of the second ‘Quantum SME call’.
The call was given to six known and promising SME quantum enterprises for a total of €4.73.
The six enterprises are Amsterdam Scientific Instruments BV, Quantamap BV, VTEC Lasers & Sensors, Software for Chemistry & Materials BV, Leiden Cryogenics BV, and ImpaQT UA.
Quantum Delta NL’s goal is to utilise the potential of Dutch quantum firms for the benefit of the Dutch economy and society.
The programme!
An eminent council of scientists, investors, and entrepreneurs assessed 18 project ideas based on a variety of criteria, including alignment with Quantum Delta NL’s goal, scientific potential, project plan quality, commercial viability, and economic and social effect.
The selected companies will receive money for “innovative” initiatives aiming at producing essential products and services in the value chain of quantum technology and its derivative products.
This yearly ‘call’ allows SMEs to propose solo or public-private collaboration projects ranging from €500K to €2M.
A total of €35M is available!
According to Quantum Delta NL, while quantum enterprises are important for future revenue models in the Netherlands and Europe, many deeptech companies suffer capital-securing issues.
The Quantum Delta NL SME project, which includes this appeal, attempts to make such finance more accessible.
Freeke Heijmans, Director of Ecosystem Development Quantum Delta NL, says, “Establishing a thriving business ecosystem is a fundamental driver of the Quantum Delta NL programme.”
“Our goal is to transform scientific knowledge from laboratories into new ventures in the Netherlands and Europe. The winners of this call will receive a significant boost in scaling their ideas into successful startups or scale-ups,” adds Heijmans.
In order to increase the added value of SMEs in quantum technology, the Quantum Delta NL, Nano4Society, and MinacNed project connects 125 high-tech Dutch SME enterprises.
A total of €35M will be made available for this purpose over the following seven years. Companies must also provide €17M in cash or in-kind contributions.
Previously, Quantum Delta NL had launched a micro-fund to assist early-stage quantum startups, as well as Infinity, a programme that facilitates links among Dutch quantum startups at all stages.
Brief about Quantum Delta NL
Founded in 2020, Quantum Delta NL links Netherlands’ key knowledge institutions in the field of quantum technology and implements the Dutch National Agenda for Quantum Technology. Its goal is to further develop the Dutch quantum ecosystem so that it can dominate Europe.
The firm says, “Our ecosystem is built around three catalyst programmes – quantum computing and simulation, national quantum network, and quantum sensing applications – and tied together with four action lines – research and innovation, quantum ecosystem, human capital, and societal impact.”
Quantum Delta NL claims that the Netherlands has tremendous knowledge and advanced resources in the field of quantum technology.
The knowledge and innovation environment of the Netherlands is supported by five specialised, yet linked, innovation hubs – QDNL Delft, QDNL Amsterdam, QDNL Leiden, QDNL Eindhoven, and QDNL Twente.
