B&B Italia, an Italian maker of design furniture controlled by Investindustrial since 2015, bought the iconic design furniture brand Azucena, founded in 1947 by architects Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Ignazio Gardella and Corrado Corradi Dell’Acqua (see here the press release).
Azucena, the name of the gipsy woman character in Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Il trovatore”, was born to collect some of the founders’ furniture projects and use them to furnishing the buildings they designed, individually producing some of the series’ furniture.
B&B Italia has recently signed a license agreement for the exclusive production and distribution of a selection of re-releases of the Azucena brand projects, including: the Catilina chair (also in the low, small, stool versions); the armchair ABCD (with its extension in sofa), Toro (with the sofa version and the reduction to pouf), Pole Position, Nonaro (with also the sofa, the chair, the table and the stool), Chinotto; the Cilindro pouf; the tables and tables Cavalletto, Fasce Cromate, Fascia Specchiata; the lamps Poltrona, Base Ghisa, Monachella, Imbuto. Starting from October 2018, under the Azucena brand the re-releases of the first 20 products designed by Caccia Dominioni will be commercialized.
B&B Italia, headquartered in Novedrate (Como) and founded in 1966 by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli, employs today about 600 people and runs 8 shops in the center of the most important cities in the world and 40 monobrand shops. The group has also signed commercial agreement in 80 countries developing a presence in more than 800 shops, with an export stake of 84% on its 2017 212 million euros total revenues.
The Luigi Caccia Dominioni collection will be available in Italy and abroad both in the main B&B Italia flagship stores and in an exclusive series of selected sales points. The Azucena collections will then join the B&B Italia, Maxalto and Arclinea brands (kitchen brands acquired in September 2016, see here a previous post by BeBeez), with the aim of further strengthening the group’s positioning as a leader in the design sector Italian high-end in the world.
