Genenta Science, a Milan, Italy-based biotech startup, raised 6.2 million euros in the first tranche of its Series A funding thanks to private investors gathered by Banca Esperia (Mediobanca and Mediolanum group) among its private banking clients. The round is expected to close at 10 million euros.
In conjunction with the funding, Roger Abravanel (former McKinsey & Company director) and Gabriella Camboni (founder of biotech startup EOS, Ethical Oncology Science, backed by Principia venture capital fund and acquired in November 2013 by Nasdaq-listed Clovis Oncology for 420 million dollors, which has been the best exit of an Italy’s venture capital ever, see here the press release) joined Genenta’s board of directors.
Led by venture capitalist Pierluigi Paracchi (founder of Quantica sgr who managed Principia fund’s investement in EOS), Genenta Science has been cofounded by Luigi Naldini (Director of the San Raffaele-Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy, TIGET, and of the Division of Regenerative Medicine, Stem Cells and Gene Therapy of San Raffaele Hospital), San Raffaele University; and Bernhard Gentner (Haematologist and Physician Scientist at the San Raffaele Hospital and TIGET).
