Amsterdam-based Seenons, a tech startup that aims to solve the growing challenge of waste, announced on Wednesday that it has acquired Recycling Partners Belgium (RPB).
The merger, finalised on August 11, aims to increase its market presence in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The announcement comes three months after Seenons raised €10M from Invest-NL, Swiss Post and Shamrock Ventures.
The acquisition
RPB, a Belgian enterprise founded in 2019, remarkably shares its inception date with Seenons. However, their common ground extends beyond just chronology.
Both companies share a similar mission – to eliminate waste from the world and earn money by genuinely reducing waste.
This mutual vision has laid the foundation for their collaboration as they plan to offer a comprehensive European solution for large businesses seeking waste reduction and transitioning to a circular economy.
Specifically, the companies aim to collectively save half a megaton of waste from incineration by 2026.
Post acquisition, RPB along with its employees will continue to operate from its offices in Turnhout.
Recycling Partners Belgium: Waste and materials management
Founded a day after Seenons in 2019, RPB provides comprehensive waste and materials management services to medium and large enterprises throughout Belgium.
Based on the needs and preferences of the enterprise, RPB develops an optimised waste management policy aimed at reducing incinerable waste and increasing recycling rates.
Through the extensive RPB network, local and/or specialised end processors are arranged to give the waste a second life to the maximum extent possible.
The Belgian company primarily caters to the manufacturing industry, logistic service providers, major retailers, and governmental entities.
Stijn Smetsers, founder and partner of RPB, says, “We have experienced organic growth over the past four years and are ready for the next step. Seenons arrived at the right time in that regard. Seenons is a tech player with extensive knowledge of software and reporting experience. What our Belgian customers will experience is that we can serve them even better with dashboarding: real-time insights into their waste streams.”
Seenons: Circular waste management
Founded by Joost Kamermans, Jorn Eiting van Liempt, and Martin Kayser in 2019, Seenons has built a circular waste management platform that aims to ensure that residual waste does not end up in a landfill or the ocean, or is being burned.
Currently, the company operates in +3000 locations across Benelux with +235 partners, dealing with +75 different types of business waste.
The Dutch startup enables organisations to get in control of their waste, providing the flexibility to choose the best partners and the insights and expertise to start the journey to zero waste.
Joost Kamermans, co-founder and CEO of Seenons, says, “With RPB, we have found a partner that complements Seenons. Stijn and his team excel in recycling knowledge and on-the-ground processes. They understand the customer’s situation behind closed doors. RPB has a strong network in Belgium and supplements us with their partner management experience. This strategic partnership collectively empowers us to strengthen our foothold in the market, not only in the Netherlands and Belgium but ultimately in Europe as well.”
